An architect in process..: The Hub

Overview

This is a very exciting project, initiated during the first block period of 2011. Small groups were formed where we had to define the function. The objectives of this design development project, would be to gain the understanding of the design process.. first and foremost the function had to be clearly defined by means of brainstorming, expressing in verbs using bold text. Thereafter the technology had to be considered, these two informants will be the most influential developing a concept model.

Function

The members of group 4, decided on the function of learning/studies, where the community hub will act as 'brain-frame', for individuals and groups to access the internet and all are plugged-in, inter connecting, sharing information across the globe.

Technology

The technology of this project is limited to gumpoles and plywood, with a masonry core 1mx1mx5m high. No heavy equipment should be used to complete the construction.

In the struggle to complete my design I switched to building a model of the little idea i have, to visualise the design and work with the model to get a better insight and understanding of how my functional elements will take shape aesthetically

The Hub - process model 3 - FINAL DESIGN

This is my model with the final idea, before i will start to design the connection detail of how my structural elements connect: gum pole to gum pole, gum pole to plywood, gum pole to masonry core.

Although this might be a very simple exercise and a relatively simple idea I will put a lot of thought into my detail in order to carry the concept thru and keep the architectural language consistent
